Church of San Marco

The church of San Marco is located in Piazza San Marco. You can reach it from the Duomo (cathedral) by taking Via de' Martelli and then directly Via Cavour which is located in its extension until you reach Piazza San Marco.

This 13th century church, given to the Dominicans, was enlarged by Michelozzo in the 15th century along with the conventual complex, then by Giambologna in 1580.

The baroque façade dates from the 18th century.

The interior, with a single nave, has several chapels: the Salviati Chapel is dedicated to St. Antoninus of Florence. The reliquary sarcophagus containing his body is under the altar. Numerous paintings by Renaissance painters adorn the walls of the church.
