Santa Trinita Basilica - Basilica of the Holy Trinity

 

The Basilica of Santa Trinita is located in the square of the same name, which can be reached from the Duomo (cathedral) by taking via de' Pecori, continuing in its continuation via degli Agli and then on the left via de' Tomabuoni.

 

Address: Piazza Santa Trinita

Opening hours: Monday to Saturday from 8:00 to 12:00 and from 16:00 to 18:15. Sundays and holidays from 8:15 am to 10:45 am and from 4 pm to 6:15 pm.

Fee: free of charge.

The first church dates from 1070 and was acquired by the Benedictine Order of Vallombrosa. The current façade dates from 1593. A cornice clearly separates the upper part from the lower one.

The interior, of a severe Gothic style, has chapels, two of which are beautifully painted.

Sasseti Chapel: Domenico Ghirlandaio represents the life of Saint Francis and places his characters in the setting of the Florence of his time. In the altarpiece of the Adoration of the Shepherds, he represents himself in the figure pointing to the Child.
